OK, I just could not resist this… Free RangeChickens as Pets, indoor, and wearing diapers…
Last week a podcast and a post on Multiple Sclerosis, and this week, chickens in diapers. It’s a strange and wonderful world we humans have made. And I want to write about all of it.
Urban farming has become quite the rage, you know, with homeowners everywhere going to City Councils for permission to keep chickens, ducks and other animals in their back yard. So far, the general consensus of Councils and neighbors seems to be “well, maybe yes, but NO roosters!”. Sleep is important…
Now the trend is to move pet chickens inside, where apparently they can be quite charming, but of course, messy. SO, voila! The chicken diaper.
Googling “chicken diaper” will get you a host of websites, and interviews on everyone from NPR and The Huffington Post to your local farm/pet store. It’s a big business and there are multiple accessories available.
Chicken leashes for walks; chicken “treats”; chicken “saddles” which protect the hen’s backs and feathers if a rooster decides she’s his Queen For The Day.
Anyway, let’s hear it for the spirit of Free Enterprise, and give a nod to our desperate need to Get Back To Nature. If it makes your life less stressful to have a chicken watch TV with you, I’m all for it. How about you?
Not a fan of Free Range Chickens at your house? How about a delicious meal of Gluten Free Chicken Cutlets.
