I’m looking deeper lately into some chronic health issues. Asking myself how love heals, and what is the emotional side of healthcare.
I do know this…. When I get overworked, worry too much, or get caught in one of life’s little traumas (leaky roof, sick animal, etc.) it can just get to be too much. Know what I mean?
When we’re under pressure, our immune system stops working. When we don’t sleep enough, our hormones don’t work. When we overtrain or have pain, inflammation causes free radical stress affecting our ability to detox daily poisons.
And when we get worried/scared/angry or sad, our nervous system goes into Flight or Fight mode, and everything stops working!
It’s my firm belief that FEAR is our number one health problem ( well, maybe next to Gluten and it’s antibodies). Translate that 100 ways to match your life and think about it a bit….
Fear you’ll never have a decent boss…. Fear you’ll never fall in love… Fear you’ll be broke forever or everyone will find out your success is a fraud. And so on.
We keep ourselves busy so we don’t have time to think about these things. They seem uncontrollable or hopeless. So we just keep working and stressing and ignoring our danger signs. This is ME and I’m guessing maybe YOU too.
Bottom line, we have to look at these emotional issues affecting our physical health. I love EFT (the tapping technique which is so easy to learn and use daily) as I can hone in on a specific fear I’m feeling right NOW, and tap on it. Getting to the true fear underneath the surface factor can be a detective challenge, but working from the top (I’m so angry that guy didn’t pay me what he owes) OR from the bottom (I hate that my Dad disrespected me) will pay off.
SO WHY IS LOVE HEALING? If we feel loved, we break the Fear and flip into our healing para-sympathetic nervous system. When we feel safe, we have hope. When we’re loving, we’re full of Oxytocin, the “cuddle” hormone that sends repair messages all over the body.
Pleasures, fondness, giggling, and profound momentary feelings of self-respect and empathy are powerful healers. If we can love our unlovable flawed selves, the neurotransmitters, hormones and hundreds of other “molecules of emotion” WILL zip around the body making magic.

Eckhart Tolle CD’s for the car – listen for 1 minute or all day; Candace Pert‘s “Your Body Is Your Subconscious Mind” CD’s for the car; EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) or other Tapping techniques (do them anytime, anywhere, whether the feelings are happening right now, or before you go to bed); “Mind Over Medicine” by Lissa Rankin; Psychosomatic and other Emotional Healing Bodywork; QUIET TIME DOING PUZZLES, READING, PLAYING WITH THE DOG; getting Grounded with bare feet on sand, dirt or grass or using an Earthing Pad under your feet or in bed (LISTEN TO MY UPCOMING PODCAST ON EARTHING); reducing work hours; re-prioritizing your to-do list to put REST near the top,
(I could go on for days here, but I’ll add as a final note, to take Passion Flower herb all day or all night. Love is a powerful force, even if it’s love for your dysfunctional (but working on taking it easier) self.
