Toxins in Food: Have You Eaten a Pinata Today??

Beverly Meyer

Grains and Sugars, Toxins and Health

Seriously, have you eaten a pinata today?

I was looking at some crazy photos of pinatas recently, and I was struck by a great analogy about the toxins in food….  Our American diet is just like eating a pinata!!  Here’s how.

1).  PASTE  The paste for your pinata is made from flour and water.  Sometimes boiled, sometimes not. And so our standard American diet is based on eating paste then, right??
Yep, that’s what your breakfast cereal, bread, tortilla, cookies, pasta and more are – just plain old nutritionally empty cement made from white flour and water.  And you wonder why you might have digestion problems??

2).  HEAVY METALS  The frame for your pinata is usually made from chicken wire which is a composite of metals including iron and zinc.  But like most synthetic vitamins added to American food such as bread and cereals, these are not absorbable forms of minerals, and in fact, may be doing us harm.  Our canned food contains aluminum, nickel and more, and almost all the food we eat in this country is cooked in aluminum.  In addition, heavy metals such as mercury, lead and cadmium are in our air, seafood, and tobacco smoke.

3).  SWEETS  Well there’s no point in making a pinata if you can’t get the candy out, right?  Kind of like your granola (candy) bar, smoothie or mojito mix, desserts, cookies and sodas, yes?

4).  COLORS  All those brightly colored pinatas would be no fun if they were just plain newspaper.  We’ve got to add some paint, colored streamers and more, to make it sexy and make it sell.  Kind of like our American cereals, cold cuts, prescription and vitamin pills, toothpaste, lipstick and SO much more made from purely synthetic chemicals and colors, many of them known carcinogens.

5).  FILLERS  In making our pinata, we might use cardboard, old paper, balloons and other fillers to make cute shapes and larger sizes.  Kind of like adding gums, oils, preservatives, waxes, talc, cellulose, and (literally) the scrapings from the factory floor to make our food fluffy or gooey or indestructible.  Just like we’ve been taught to expect it by our modern advertising magicians.

After all, why would we pay super-corporations to deliver us fresh, naturally vibrant vegetables, herbs,  seafoods and fruits, when we can have all the processed synthetics we want?

There’s little profit in selling the basics – it’s ALL about “value added”.  And we are taught that it ADDS value to use refined flour and refined sugar and factory colors and cheap synthetic vitamins and chemical fillers to make a pretty product!  What a crazy country!
