The Diet for Human
Beings Video
The Foods we evolved to eat
What will I learn from the video?
The Big Idea #1: Eat Like A Human Being
Humans are not vegetarians. We release hydrochloric acid to digest animal protein when we begin eating. Herbivores digest differently and are suited for grass, weeds and fiber. They don’t produce much HCL.
The Big Idea #2: Most Fats Are Good
Humans depend on fat for fuel. It is the most satisfying of all foods. We also make fat out of any extra glucose and store it as triglycerides or body fat to burn later for fuel. We produce Estrogen, Testosterone, Cortisol and Progesterone from cholesterol. But why are “vegetable” oils so bad? Listen for more.
The Big Idea #3: Reboot the System
Humans began eating grains after the last Ice Age 15,000 years ago. Since then, sugar and carbohydrates have taken over our diets! Our bodies had to learn to burn glucose for fuel, rather than burning fat for fuel. The primary goal of The Diet For Human Beings is to reboot your body from glucose-burning to our protein and fat-burning default system. Learn how!
The Big Idea #4: Insulin Resistance Is a Problem
Insulin is a master hormone regulating all hormones in the body. Any hormonal problem can be due to the insulin-glucose cycle. Insulin escorts nutrients into the cells. We need SOME insulin, but if we eat excess sugars/starches, we make excess insulin. Our bodies become insulin-resistant, and we store glucose as fat. This fat accumulates on the organs in the mid-body, becoming one of the main predictors of mortality. The video explains how to reverse Insulin Resistance through food.
The Big Idea #5: The Trouble With Grains
Grains are the seeds of grass. Wheat, rye, oats, corn, rice are seeds. Seeds are not very digestible to humans but are perfect for animals who graze. Seeds are naturally coated with anti-nutrients to protect the seed from being digested if eaten. The Agricultural Revolution of the 1960’s hybridized grain, making it cheaper to grow and use. The hybridization of grain affected all grain, including organic. Grains are almost pure carbohydrate.
The Big Idea #6: Fat Is Not The Problem!
Our bodies need good fat found in animal fats and organs, coconuts, and coconut oil. Some fats are great for cooking – others may burn. Do not use vegetable oils or highly processed, hydrogenated oils, such as canola, corn, soy or peanut. Get the list of good fats and how to use them.

Beverly Meyer is a whirlwind of information and experience. She has been in the natural healing arts for several decades, both as a patient and as a healer. Beverly has created the only DVD that I am aware of discussing a whole food diet with a primal/ancestral bias. It’s called “The Diet for Human Beings.

If you aren’t sure about buying this, listen to a couple of Beverly’s podcasts (free on iTunes) first. The Human Diet is life-changing.
Nicely paced so you can stop and think
This video has review slides that come up every 3 minutes or so. I watch with my family and we can decide if we really understood everything just said or should we go back a bit to review. Nice to watch over several days rather than all at once. There’s lots of good info here!
