Leaky Gut and Autoimmune Disorders w. Tara Grant

Beverly Meyer, Clinical Nutritionist, MBA

Tara Grant Primal GirlThe link between leaky gut and autoimmune disorders has been proposed by scientists and health providers for decades.  The whole idea of a “leaky gut” is one idea behind the natural foods movement in general, and the Paleo Diet and Gaps Diet in particular.

I recently wrote about Leaky Gut and some of the supplements to help manage it in this article.  Then I read a wonderful book exploring the link between leaky gut and autoimmune disorders in easy-to-understand detail.  The book is “The Hidden Plague”, and I spoke with author Tara Grant at length about it in an interview.

I offer a Leaky Gut Test and one hour consult with results from Cyrex Labs Array #2. Find more about this here.

So here’s what you want to know.

Can we get to the bottom of ALL auto-immune disorders?

It’s now estimated  that we have between 80 and 150 autoimmune disorders.  We used to “pass off” eczema and psoriasis as “just’ skin problems, for example, but we now acknowledge that they are manifestations of the body attacking itself.  In this case, the skin.

Tara Grant makes the point in “The Hidden Plague”, although we didn’t get around to it in our interview (see the link below or find us on iTunes to listen) is that it’s a combo of your genes, the severity of your Leaky Gut, and your Environmental triggers that determines the type, timing and level of any autoimmune disorder.

An environmental trigger can include foods (such as gluten or the Nightshade vegetables), medicines, stress, chemicals, etc.

What turns the inflammation on can be eliminated or changed to help turn the inflammation off.  This is an area where the Paleo Diet and Lifestyle are so helpful.  It’s a deliberate way of eating and observing patterns of response that makes detective work much easier.

Removing gluten is absolutely the first step

I strongly encourage all my clients to get off gluten, grains, sugars and dairy (except ghee) as fast as they can.  This usually provides relief from a huge variety of mental and physical discomforts and lets people see the finer points of what makes them better and what makes them worse.

Isn’t that the key to managing your health?

Leaky Gut and Autoimmune with Tara Grant

If you struggle with any chronic health issue, get a copy of The Hidden Plague and read it.  This book is applicable to Rheumatoid Arthritis, Hashimoto’s Thyroid or MS, as much as it is for the Hydradenitis Suppurativa skin condition it was written for.  Tara struggled with this for 20 years until eating Paleo and avoiding nightshades put her into remission.  It’s a uniquely grim skin disorder, involving painful boils, acne and more that people have been told is “just acne” or that there is no cure but a lifetime of antibiotics.

Tara Grant is here to tell us differently.  Find her at PrimalGirl.com or on Twitter at primalpower.

Here’s a link to our interview and buy the book here for much more!
