Do you do a salt water gargle?
Do you use a Neti Pot for irrigating the sinuses and washing out pollen and mucous?
Both work great for me when I’m sick and they are also handy all year ’round for allergies. A salt water gargle cleans out excess mucous in your throat and help kill germs too. My recipe is a little different than most. Try it and see if it works for you.
HERE’S THE RECIPE FOR THE SALINE SOLUTION FOR SALT WATER GARGLE
Warm one cup filtered water or other non-softened water, and add one-half teaspoon baking soda and up to one teaspoon sea salt.
Use regular sea salt or Himalayan Salt. Do NOT use our wonderful Premier Pink Salt (sold in my clinic) as it contains a bit of clay that your nose may not like!
It is best to use the solution while warm, but not too hot! If gargling, save extra solution in a small glass jar to use several times over the day.
When gargling, take a large sip and gargle as deeply as you can, using different sounds or tones. This moves the water up and down to different areas of the throat. Spit out and repeat several times. It is OK if you swallow a bit.
Do not drink water afterwards. You want the salt to lightly coat the throat and pull out and drain the water that is swelling the tissues.
If using the Neti Pot, tilt your head sideways over the sink, put the nozzle of the Pot in one nostril and let it flow out of the other. If you are completely stuffed up, this method will not work. You can buy a Neti Pot at most drugstores and health food stores. Some also sell pre-packaged salt/soda solutions so you don’t have to make your own.
Don’t flush your nose or sinuses immediately before bed as the solution will drain down your throat for a little while. Insomnia won’t help you feel better!
