Adapting the Paleo Diet for Herpes Management is the fastest way to control viral Herpes outbreaks. My articles and Podcasts on Herpes supplements, the best and worst foods for Herpes, and the low Arginine diet for Herpes explore the diet needed to control HSV.
My Online Store offers the Herpes Management Guide – a 90-minute PowerPoint called the Herpes Relief Guide. I explain the diet, symptoms, medications, supplements, WHEN to take supplements, and how to avoid viral triggers.
The Paleo Diet for Herpes Management
I have a rare genetic immune deficiency known as CVID (Common Variable Immune Deficiency).
Because of this, I was never able to fully fight the Herpes I contracted in my youth. I now take weekly immunoglobulins to help my immune system but I still have to closely manage the virus.
I had to learn on my own how to control it, despite my immune deficiency. I wasn’t even told about Lysine or Valtrex (which I do not take), much less about Arginine in grains and nuts.
I gave up wheat decades ago, and gradually figured out that ALL OTHER GRAINS flared up my Herpes.
This is how I helped discover Paleo before it had a name, books and podcasts other than my own.
Grains were not good for my digestion or my immune system!
Paleo, Ancestral, Biological Diets
All diets based on ancient human nutrition eliminate grains as the first step.
Why? People don’t graze on grass and grass seed. That is what grains are. (Modern corn doesn’t look like a grass but it is).
Giving up all grains improved my Herpes control immensely, and quickly! It is the mandatory first step for everyone reading this article.
Adapting the Paleo Diet for Herpes Management
1). Avoid High Arginine Grains
- Wheat
- Corn
- Oats
- Rice
- Rye
- Spelt
- Soy (a legume, not a grain but high in Arginine like all legumes)
2). Reduce Nuts, Bone Broth and Coconut Meat
The basic Paleo Diet: pastured animal protein, lots of vegetables, fats, some tubers and fruit is hearty and satisfying.
So we adapt Paleo to remove high Arginine foods that drive Herpes. The Grains are the worst so they’re GONE!
3). Other foods to reduce to adapt the diet for HSV
- Seeds
- Chocolate
- Bone Broth
- Coconut Meat and Flour (the Oil is fine)
- Larger servings of Legumes (beans such as Soy, Black Beans, Hummus)
- Most protein powders (a few whey powders may be low-Arginine)
The goal is a Lysine-balanced diet to stop viral replication
Once the virus is mostly controlled, supplements or the occasional Valtrex can manage it. Stress management is key as well.
Supplements for Herpes
There are 8 hand-picked professional products in my Herpes Control Pack. I use these in my Clinic and I take them as well.
You should add D3 Complete (D with K2 and A), a DHA only fish oil, and a good Probiotic.
Consider adding Supreme Nutrition Melia. I recently added this potent but gentle anti-infective to MY supplement regimen and it has really helped. At the moment it is not in the Herpes Pack. Order it separately or in addition to the items in the Infection Pack.
I take Lysine, Whole Olive Leaf and Melia Neem twice daily. If I have a pro-dromal itch or burn I add the other items in the Herpes Control Pack such as VIVI – Virox, Monolaurin and Melissa/Lemon Balm.
The Diet for HSV – Start Here
I’ve been eating pastured animal protein, cooked vegetables, plenty of fats from healthy animals, some tubers (potato/yam) and a little fruit for decades. It’s a hearty diet and good for the long term.
Adapt this Paleo approach for viral control by continuing to omit grains, then keep out most nuts, seeds, chocolate, collagen and protein powder, bone broth and coconut meat. Learn your boundaries over time, when you have to supplement more, or can supplement less. When you can add some foods back or not.
Losing Too Much Weight on Paleo?
Most people drop weight, bloating and puffiness on Paleo. But if your weight is not an issue, take steps to avoid weight loss.
- Increase Coconut Oil, fats from pastured meats, Avocado Oil, pure Olive Oil, butter, ghee
- Increase potato and sweet potato. These tubers are not high in Arginine.
- Increase animal protein. Eat 3 or 4 fist-sized servings daily.
Using Diet for Herpes Management
The basics are simple. There is more detail in my 90-minute Herpes Guide PowerPoint on diet, supplements, FAQ’s and Store discounts too.
You CAN do this and master the management of this virus.
